What is a FORTIFIED Roof?
FORTIFIED is a voluntary roofing standard from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), built to help homes stand up to high wind and hail [1], [3]. Upgrades include enhanced roof deck attachment, impact-resistant shingles and wind-resistant attic vents [1].
The Strengthen Oklahoma Homes grant
- Grants of up to $10,000 toward a FORTIFIED Home – Roof upgrade, paid directly to the contractor when the work is done and certified [1].
- For owner-occupied, primary-residence single-family homes in all 77 counties [1].
- You need a homestead exemption on file with your county assessor to qualify [2].
- Grants are first-come, first-served as funding allows [2].
Insurance savings
Homes with a FORTIFIED designation can qualify for discounts on the wind portion of their homeowners premium; discounts are set by each insurer [1]. Ask your agent what yours offers.
